This branch of the Engle family first settled in Germantown (Philadelphia) Pennsylvania ca. 1745. Some members, in time, moved to the midwest. Familes intermarried include Williams, Pennebacker (Pannebecker), McGargee, Brown, Gill, Naesmith, Fesmire, and Dyson. Several family lines have been documented for the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America and/or for the Daughters of the American Revolution. Although some lines of the family may be traced to the 16th century, and a few forebears were illustrious, most were yoeman stock, fleeing religious intolerance in Europe.
