Riley Hobson (b. February 22, 1822, d. January 05, 1894)
Riley Hobson (son of Benjamin Hobson and Miriam Aldred) was born February 22, 1822 in Staley, Chatham, North Carolina, and died January 05, 1894 in Wise County, Decatur Texas/Sand Hill Cemetary. He married Mary Ann Hanson on October 21, 1844 in Shelby, Illinois.

Riley followed his older brother, Neri, to Decatur, Wise, Texas in the fall of 1856, He settled on the east side of Oliver Creek, about five miles west of Decatur.
Riley was a private in the civil war with George B. Pickett's Fifteenth Texas Cavalry, First Frontiier District, First Company.
Both Neri and Riley had a son named William about the same age. There was a William Hobson who enlisted with Neri and Riley, but it's unknown which son it was.
Riley and his brother Neri moved to Wise County, Texas to find more and better grass land from which they could raise and sell horses. As was the situation with most in Wise County Texas Pioneers, they had varied and unhappy experiences with the Indians who made raids in those areas of the county during the early period of Wise County's growth.
