I am a direct descendant of Abraham Enloe & Sarah Edgerton of Western North Carolina, and am quite confident of the accuracy of the information posted regarding this Enloe family line back to Abraham Enloe & Sarah Edgerton.

However there is some dispute among our Enloe family & researchers as to who really was the father of this Abraham Enloe of Western North Carolina. Colonel Thomas A. Enloe concluded the father was Enoch Enloe of York County, SC; which is how I am carrying the line back. This line has been traced back further to Hendricks(Henry)Enloes who lived the majority of his life in the Province of Maryland; he was an immigrant from The United Provinces of the Netherlands to the Dutch settlement of New Amstel on the Delaware River, about 1656.

There is another group who think his father was Abraham Inloes of Fells Point, Baltimore County, MD; which also traces back to Hendricks Enloes. However, information from Charlotte Enloe discounts this theory:

The settlement of the will of Abraham Inloes/Enloes, of Fells Point, indicate that his sons, Abraham & Anthony received their shares and moved to Craven County, NC;
there Anthony Enloes married Elizabeth Cheney[bond 6/10/1787] and Abraham Enloes married Ann Cheney[bond 6/10/1789]. Colonel Enloe found that this Abraham had died by 1798, as his widow remarried in that year.

There is still another group which think Enoch & Isaac Enloe, along with another brother, were immigrants from Scotland.

Recent DNA test results indicate a high probability that my Abraham Enloe was very closely related to both Enoch Enloe and Isaac Enloe. Further, Enoch and Isaac were also closely related. My conclusion is that Enoch was most probably Abraham's father; and Enoch and Isaac were most probably brothers.

Additional DNA results, as of 6/15/2006, indicate Hendricks Enloes of the Province of Maryland was most probably the MRCA for all the current test participants who have matching and/or closely matching results.

Hendricks immigrated, first to the Dutch settlement and then to the Maryland colony of Gunpowder Manor. Our primary ancestors most probably were Dutch, however more recent information suggests that they may possibly have been German, and subsequently moved to The United Provinces of the Netherlands. It is also possible they may have been Scottish, springing from Scottish soldiers hired to protect the Netherlands. This is under current investigation.

There is also the old family tradition regarding the natural parentage of President Abraham Lincoln that deserves comment. I think it is quite possible that my Abraham Enloe of Western North Carolina could have been the natural father of Abraham Lincoln. This question will probably only be answered if we are able to compare the DNA characteristics of Lincoln to that of Abraham Enloe's male descendants. I will support this effort in any way possible and would like to hear from others interested in the same ends.

The information listed is the result of my own amateur work and the assembly of much information provided by many other people. Due to file size limitations placed on this site I have revised the BOOK, which now only contains information directly related to the Enloe/Enloes/Enlow/Inlow family lines. I would be happy to also share information on my maternal family lines, and those of my wife's ancestors.
