He married Martha Ann Thomas Abt. 1848 in Hyde County, NC, daughter of Slave Three and Slave Four. She was born September 1825 in Fairfield Twp. Hyde Co., NC, and died Abt. 1905 in Currituck Twp. Hyde Co., NC.

Our Ancestors probab y belonged Benners L. Ensley (b.1799) who died in 1830. He was the son of John Ensley (b.1778) and Nancy Gibbs Ensley (b.1780). leaving 22 slaves and a plantation known as the Homestead or Hill Plantation in Lake Landing, Hyde County, NC. to his Wife Sarah Ann Henry-Gibbs Ensley,and son. His son Benners A. Ensley is in Hyde County 1850 Census ( 21 years of age ) and owns (slave schedule) 15 slaves including 4 males between the ages of 20 and 25.

Edward S. Ensley, Adm'r., in final account with the estate of Edward Ensley,
deceased.

Voucher dated Jany 1892 mentions cash paid to the estate by Tom Long and cash
paid to the estate by G.H. Ensley. Mentions sale of a horse, corn sheller,
grubing hoe and a few other sundries.

Voucher dated Dec. 1892 mentions cash received of W.J. Harris on his note.
Voucher dated June 1891 mentions cash the estate paid George Ensley.
Voucher dated Jany. 1893 mentions estate paid $32.00 to tombstones.
Voucher dated Oct. 1894 mentions estate paid freight of $1.49 on tombstones.

1/8 of 45.47 due Martha A. Ensley (widow)
1/3 of 18.55 cost of dower paid by E.S. Ensley

1/8 of 45.57 due Melvina Slade
1/7 of 39.40 cost of partition paid by E.S. Ensley
1/7 of 12.37 which is 2/3 cost of dower paid by E.S. Ensley

The rest of the division was the same as the above item except instead of
"Melvina Slade" the names were: Annie E. Gray, George H. Ensley, Mary E. Long,
Judith P. Howard, and William T. Ensley.

Mentions paid guardian ad litem $2.50. (From the looks of it, E.S. Ensley was
the guardian)
