Descendants of Edward B ENSLEY

My name is Vaughn H. Ensley Sr. the Fiffth Generation of my Family. I been researching my family roots oh! since Jan.1995, a little after my mother Pass Away. The main subject of my family, and the oldest is Edward B. Ensley born 1825 in Hyde County North Carolina,My Great-Great Grandfather, His parents unknown at this time, but I'm working on it. As far as I know from information I got from Hyde county Wills and Accounts, Edward was one of the 22 Slaves belonging to the estate of the late Benners L. Ensley, of The Homestead or Hill Plantation in Lake Landing, Hyde County, NC, (NC 1850 Slave Schedule),He pass away in 1830 or 1831. The Negroes was distributed between Sarah Henry Gibbs Ensley his widow, and his son Benners A. Ensley lots # 1,# 2,and # 3. Sarah his widow drew lot # 1 consisting of Edward, valued at $125.00 in 1831.There are other names in her lot too, maybe one of them was Edward's parents? it is hard to tell because they didn't keep very good records, or any at all of birth parents of Slaves .

I had contacted someone on the World Wide Net from the ANSLEY's home page who may have some information on my ENSLEY ancestors, it so happens that he is a descendent of the ANSLEY's of North Carolina, John ANSLEY ( b.1765) son of Solomon ANSLEY (b.1710 in England) took the spelling ENSLEY at some time in the late 1700's,or early 1800's with this information I hope it will be some help to me, because I'm trying to find a connection between the two family's.

Starting with EDWARD B. ENSLEY born 1825, Our own family name, ENSLEY have survived One Hundred-Seventy-Five Years of Existence in America with Seven Generations to date, in some States as North Carolina, New York, New Jersey, Alabama, Arkansas,Kentucky, Georgia, and Indiana, and maybe others . May our family keep growing GOD BLESS. ( Family Surnames: BARBER - CREDLE - ENSLEY - GIBBS - GRAY - HOWARD - LONG - MACKEY - MANN - SLADE - SPENCER - THOMAS - WHITE )

Up from Slavery (EMANCIPATION PROCLAMATION ) Edward was able to purchase land, and became a property owner in Hyde County North Caroline in the 1870's (1870 NC Census) which our family still own today he married Martha Ann Thomas unknown date. Edward Died in 1891, and left his Estates to his childred, and Widow (Hyde Co. Settlement of Estates 1856-1905 Vol.1 pgs.442-443 )

From How Green Was My Valley by Richard Llewellyn:

"I saw behind me those who had gone, and before me those who are to come, I looked back and saw my father, and his father, and all our fathers, and in front to see my son, and his son and the sons upon sons beyond. And their eyes were my eyes.
As I felt, so they had felt and were to feel, as then, so now, as tomorrow and forever. Then I was not afraid, for I was in a long line that had no beginning and no end, and the hand of his father grasped my father's hand, and his hand was in mine, and my unborn son took my right hand, and all, up and down the line that stretched from Time That Was to Time That Is, and Is Not Yet, raised their hands to show the link, and we found that we were one, born of Woman, Son of Man, made in the Image, fashioned in the Womb by the Will of God, the Eternal Father."
