Obituary published in a Shreveport newspaper dated Tuesday, June 5, 1951: "T. H. Matthews Funeral Tuesday. Funeral services for T. H. Matthews, 51, of 3208 Alexander Avenue, who died at a local sanitarium after a lingering illness, will be held at 4:00 p.m. Tuesday at Osborn Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Ira H. Peak, pastor of the Queensbourgh Baptist Church. Interment will be in Centuries Memorial Park. Mr. Matthews was a native of Greenwood. He had been a resident of Shreveport for 25 years and was a salesman for the Louisiana Paper Co. over a period of 15 years. Earlier he had worked for the Ogilve Hardware Co. He is survived by his widow, one daughter, Mrs. (Geraldine Matthews) John McKowen; two sisters, Mrs. T. E. (Jessie Virginia Matthews) Landrum, and Mrs. C. D. (Gladys Adele Matthews) Prudhomme; and two brothers, R. L. Matthews and the Rev. Frank A. Matthews. All are residents of Shreveport with the exception of Rev. Mr. Matthews, who lives in Iraan, Texas. Pallbearers will be Vern Folsom of Dallas; J. R. Trotter, Samuel P. Love, Kenneth Marshall, A. L. Williams, Esso Lawton, Henry Thweatt, and G. S. Floyd."

      Henry's first home in Shreveport was located at 852 College Street. The home originally belonged to Geneva Knighton's parents, and Henry moved into the home after his marriage to Geneva. After Robin graduated from high school, Henry helped Robin get a job at Ogilve Hardware where Henry was a buyer. Robin moved in with Henry after getting the job. Following the death of Mittie Oden Matthews in 1930, Henry moved Gladys and Virginia into his home from the family home in Greenwood. The Greenwood home was sold to Mrs. Maggie Leopard in 1936 for $1,250.

He married Elsie Inez Crawford September 10, 1929 in Las Cruces, Dona Ana Co., NM, daughter of J. W. Crawford. She was born February 13, 1909 in Anchorage, Atascosa Co., TX, and died August 22, 1993 in Denver, CO.

The 1910 Census and his application for marriage license indicate Frank was born in Louisiana. His father's Bible lists his place of birth "near DeBerry, Texas."
      Frank was granted a license to preach 18 November 1927 at Fayetteville, , signed by John A. Womack, Presiding Elder, North Annual Conference of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South.
      Newspaper item in the John Brown College newspaper, Silom Springs, AR in 1928: "STUDENT MAKING GOOD - Frank A. Matthews, ministerial student at J.E.B.C., who at the close of the Spring term, went to Greenwood, La. as assistant pastor, has concluded a series of revival meetings there. He is working hard and reports that he is enjoying his labors. On one occasion when Frank was hitch-hiking back to school he caught a ride with a Mr. Orr, an oil man from Oklahoma City. They talked a lot about "preaching." Later Frank was notified by John Brown College that his tuition had been paid for the coming year by Mr. Orr.
      Frank A. Matthews was appointed Deacon 8 November 1931 by Hoyt M. Dobbs, Bishop of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South at Conway, .

      "Rev. Frank A. Matthews, of Shreveport, La. and Miss Elsie Crawford, of El Paso, were married at the home of Rev. Mr. Barton of Las Cruces Tuesday evening. Rev. Mr. Matthews is a graduate of the John E. Brown college at Silom Springs, , and is engaged in evangelistic work in Louisiana and . The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Crawford, of El Paso, and she is also a former student of John E. Brown college. After the ceremony the bridal party motored to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Henderson, of Tornillo where they will spend a few days before going to Shreveport, Louisiana where they will make their home."
      Following the death of Frank in 1956, Elsie was employed as a school teacher at Ruidoso, New Mexico. She later taught several years in the Santa Fe school system.

      "R. L. (Robin) Matthews died, of Lou Gehrig's disease, May 8, 1994, in Shreveport at age 83. Born November 18, 1910, he was a native of Greenwood, LA. After graduating from high school there he moved to Shreveport and joined Ogilve Wholesale Hardware Co. His first job was in the warehouse. His business career with this company covered a span of 47 years, during which time he became an officer, a director and a stockholder in the company. He retired in 1976. Following retirement he purchased a travel trailer and for the next eight years he and his wife traveled throughout the states visiting many of the national parks, national forests and cities, meeting many interesting people.
      "For 35 years he was a member of Queensborough Baptist church. He served on finance, personnel and building committees. He was also a member of the Board of Deacons and served as chairman for one term.
      "Mr. Matthews' favorite sport was tennis, a game he played for 66 years, retiring from this sport in 1992. He was a member of the Indoors Racket Club in Spring Lake.
      "Survivors in his immediate family include his wife, Eleanor Clare, his son, David and wife, Sandy, two grandsons, Rob and Michael, and one sister, Virginia Landrum and husband, Gene.
      "The family will receive visitors at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 11. Chapel services will be held at Centuries Memorial at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 12, 1994.
