Isaac Aiken was born Abt. 1829 in Tyrone Co., Ireland, and died November 1885 in Choctaw Nation, Eufaula, Okla.. He married (1) Mrs. Margaret Vanhover on December 23, 1857 in Kaufman County, Texas. He married (2) Nancy Adeline Earp on June 13, 1869 in Benton County, Ark, daughter of Calvin Earp and Anna Eliza Graham.

According to the National Archives Division of the Texas State Library in Austin, Texas, Isaac Aiken enlisted in the Confederate army on March 10, 1862 for a period of 12 months. He was a Private in Company C, 20th Texas Cavalry (Boss' Regiment) Johnson's Battalion, 20 Texas Dismounted Cavalry Company F, Morgan's Regiment, Texas Cavalry. He is shown on the Company Muster-in Roll at Camp Bass, Texas on March 15, 1862. This company subsequently became Company C, 20th Regiment Texas Cavalry. The 20th (also known as Bass') Regiment Texas Cavalry. It is shown that the valuation of his horse $145.00; equipment $15.00. He was attached to the General Hospital in Fort Smith, Arkansas on February 15, 1862 as a nurse & served to the 25 of March 1863. According the the Records Division of the War Department Isaac received a total of $90.50 , This included Millage, clothing. At the time of his discharge he also received $5.oo travelling expenses from Camp Mc Cullock, Texas (where he was discharged from to Kaufmann, Texas (the place of his enrollment. ) plus 78.00 due him.

Isaac also fought in the battle at Pea Ridge, Arkansas.

His discharge papers also show that Isaac was born In Ireland & was 36 years old when discharged. It was stated that he was 5'8" tall, fair complexion, blue eyes & light hair. By occupation a farmer.

Isaac married Margrat Vanhover in 12/23/1857 in Kaufman, Texas. They were married by W. Calhoun. Margaret died in 1863 in Texas along with 2 sons. They reportedly had the black plague & Margrat & the two boys died.

Isaac was a nurse at the General Hospital in Fr. Smith, Ark.

Isaac cane to America at the age of 18. He sailed from Londonderry, Ireland on board the "Bark Creole" sailing ship to Philadelphia in May 25, 1847. From there he went to Kaufman, Texas.
According to the passenger list for the "Bark Creole" Isaac appears to have come alone, bringing no luggage with him or any other siblings. (copy of this passenger list in hands of Linda Erickson).

He served one year in the Civil War in the Confederate Army 1862-1863. Was in the battle of Pea Ridge, Ark. He went back to Texas & was discharged at Fort McCullah, Texas. He bought 80 acres land in Benton County, Ark in 1867 from V.Schell who lived in Texas. He went back to Ark in 1868. It was there he met Nancy Adeline Earp & they were married 6/13/1869. He had become a naturalized citizen.\

Isaac & Nancy had a son who died when about 4 year old. At that time the family lived near Maysville, Ark & Gravett, Arkansas (called Chalk Valley). About 1884 the family went to Eufala Okla, It was then Choctaw Indian Nation. They raised Cotton. Mary & Lora packed cotton to help their dad. While working the the field the outlaw woman Bell Star & her gag came riding by shooting over their heads. Their Dad took the girls to a square dance. Bell Star & her husband Sam Star & their gang came. They wore heavy belts & guns buckled on. Bell Star played the organ then danced. She also wore boots & spurs & had guns buckled around her waist.

While living there, their dad died in Oct or Nov 1885. He is buried in Eufala, Indian Territory (now Okla). Mother Nancy Aiken, traveling through the Choctaw Indian nation in covered wagon brought the children back to Arkansas. She died less than one year later and was buried in VanBuren, Arkansas. Grandmother Liza Graham Earp raised the four girls. Mary worked & helped their grandmother raise the younger girls. She was 13 years old when her mother died. While working for a family named "Brown", she met & married John Henry Sanders Oct. 12, 1890.
