The spelling of the last name, Brent, is carried for a few generations, then changes to Brunt, and in one family to Brint.
THOMAS BRENT is found in old Currituck Precinct after 1700. The name, Thomas Brent, (date 1706) on a list containing the names of persons in Currituck Co., NC, 1663-1850). He also lived at one time in Calvert Co., Maryland. (Colonial Families of the U.S., Pg-564).
He left the following Will in Currituck Co., (From the Secretary of State, N.C. Wills 1663-1789, Vol. 2Pg. 25-26), (unabrigded):
IN THE NAME OF GOD AMEN I Thomas Brent of ye precinct of Currituck being sick of ye body but of sound and well disposing memory praise be given to God for ye same doe make this my last will and Testament revoking all others by me heretofore made & my body I commit to y earth whenceit was taken to be decently buried at ye discretion of my well beloved Executrix hereafter named and as for my worldly goods and Estates ye Lord hath gaith me I dispose therefore as follows; I give & bequeath unto my loveing son, Charles Brent, ye half of ye Divident of land I now own being hethermost end to him and his heirs forever after my wife's decease, I give and bequeath unto my son Jno. Brent, the other morety of this Divident of land to he and his heirs forever. I give and bequeath to my son, Thomas Brent, my land and ye plantation lying on Brarcreck to him and his heirs forever and one young horse and all my cooper and carpenters tools and all the rest and resident of my estate & cattle & goods after my debts 7 funeral expenses are discharged. I give and bequeath unto my loveing Alice Brent whom I do make wholly & sole Executrix this my last will 7 Testament. Witness my hand this 28th Jan. 1712-13. (signed) Thomas B. Brent
