| This family tree records the descendants of John Esdaille. It is a work in progress and follows our path over 400 years. We have now identified fourteen generations of Esdales and related branches due to marriage. It provides a glimpse into the life and times through which we have endured and thrived. With each generation, the branches on the tree continue to grow and today we find descendants of our Esdale ancestors living in many parts of the world. The first known Esdale in our family to arrive in Canada was John Eskdale who left Dumfriesshire in southern Scotland in the 1850’s and settled in Upper Canada approximate 200 km west of the present day city of Toronto, Ontario. John Eskdale was in his early 20’s and single when he arrived in Canada in the late 1850’s so we may speculate that he left his family behind to seek his fortune in the “colony” known as Upper Canada. According to the Canadian censes of 1871, John Esdale was married with two daughters and a baby son John. The family moved to a farm near Cornwall in eastern Ontario in the 1870’s and a number of his descendants still live in this region. Any information would be appreciated. I am also willing to share the information that I have. |
