Descendants of Henry Lee

Generation No. 1

1. HENRY1 LEE was born Bef. 1876. He married LIZZIE HAMMOCK.

Notes for HENRY LEE:
" I am now going to open the closet door in the Lee's front hall again and examine that old skeleton a little closer. From what I am told Grandpa Lee was not really Grandpa Lee. He was actually Grandpa Creech, who for some strange and unexplained reason decided to change his name from Creech to Lee. He also for some unexplained reason decided at the same time to move from state of Virginia to Soperton, Gerogia. He, apparently wanting to leave an old life behind, also left a family behind which included a duaghter." ...
" Henry Lee was probably the wealthiest man in Soperton. He was the first one to won a car, cna the first to have electric lights. They were called Delco Lights. Apparently, Henry was the owner of a vast farm and lived in a white southern mansion. He also owned a livery stable in Soperton and was a trader in large numbers of mules and horses. James says, "It was a Mule factory." To be more specific and to keep up with the times, Aunt Dorothy, who is married to Uncle James, put it this way; "Grandpa Lee had his own Used Mule Lot." Grandpa Henry Lee seemed to have a great deal of business sense, and kept all his holdings well diversified. He also owned a grocery store, had his own church, and at one point owned his own school. He built the school, hired the teacher, and sent his grandchildren to school there. I guess by the standards of the times, Henry Lee was a very wealthy man. "...
" Virginia was actually the grandchild who motivated Henry Lee to start his own school. It seems taht one day at school during recess she accidently hit a girl on the finger with a stick, and as they say, the girl made a federal case out of it. Virginia told the girl how very sorry she was, but to no avail. The teacher stood Virginia up in front of the whole class and proceeded to try to make her appologize again. It's hard to say who was the more stubborn, Mama or the teacher, because for the rest of the day the teacher alternated between telling Mama to appologize and whipping her. Mama said she had already appologized and didn't intend to do it again and was bound and determined that no matter if that teacher whipped her the rest of her life, she would not cry. She didn't move or flinch; just stood ramrod stiff and never wavered in her conviction.
Upon telling her family about the incident, her Grandpa Henry Lee was so mad he took all of the little Lees out of school and started his own place of learning in a little house on the farm. He hired his own teacher, and sent all his grandchildren to school there. Grandpa Henry Lee appropriately named his school Crooked Run School."
