1. GORDON RICHARD2 WRIGHT (RICHARDPHILIP1) was born February 22, 1909 in Oak Lake Manitoba1, and died February 07, 1989 in Transcona Manitoba. He married ISABELLA MCFARLANE PURDEN May 07, 1936 in Transcona Manitoba. She was born March 27, 1913 in Scotland.
Notes for GORDON RICHARD WRIGHT:
Born in Oak Lake Manitoba in 1909, the family later moved to Suthwyn Manitoba ( Deacon's Corner ) in 1922, first renting the Block family home. Then in 1926 his father Richard, rented the house belonging to the superintendant of the Greater Winnipeg Waterworks Railway, which was the only remaining building on the site of the village of Deacon.
Gordon, in his early years, enjoyed singing, much like his mother did.
Married in April of 1936, Gordon and bride Isa first rented a house on Dugald Road in South Transcona where, a year later, their first children, twins Mary and Gordon, were born. They later moved into Transcona on Victoria Avenue west, where Colin was born on February 14th 1941.
Shortly after his marriage Gordon gained employment with the Town of Transcona, where he eventually became Superintendant of Public works. In 1957 he decided to change jobs, moving to Selkirk Manitoba, where he accepted a similar position until retiring in 1968.
Shortly thereafter, Gordon and Isa moved into their cottage at Star Lake in the Whiteshell Provincial Park, which Isa's father, Colin Purdin built in 1949. They spent the next 14 years wintering in Anaheim California, eventually selling the summer cottage in 1980, to move back to Winnipeg.
Gordon enjoyed gardening, meeting people ( or, as he would say "chewing the fat" ) and the company of his many grandchildren as they arrived. Both Gordon and Isa loved bowling, having played in leagues in Transcona and Selkirk until retiring. Sadly, Gordon passed away in 1968.
His family misses his friendly personality and wonderful sense of humour.
