This site tracks one line of the descendants of Richard Wright, who married Ann Harrison on April 10 1791 in Strensall England.

Specifically, it primarily contains descendants of Richard Philip Wright, one of three Wright brothers, Richard, Herbert and Jack who emigrated to Canada, settling first around Walkerton, Ontario.

Shortly thereafter Herbert and Richard moved to Oak Lake Manitoba, married, and had families, only to move a third time to the Dugald area, a short distance from Winnipeg.

Richard's family has spread around Canada and abroad, in search of new careers and opportunities. But most still feel 'at home', in and around Dugald, Manitoba, Canada.

Much of this Richard Philip Wright web site owes it's completeness to contributions of many people over the years. The family kept records which, along with the recorded memories of senior family members in particular, form the family knowledge base we present here.

We acknowledge the efforts of the descendants of Herbert Wright, Richard's brother, who created a private publication of the family history titled "From Bruce county They Came . . . The Story of Richard Wright and Mary Jane Carswell & their Descendants 1831 - 2002". This book was instrumental in allowing further research by host Bob Esselmont (maternal grandson of Richard) to connect back four generations to GGGGrandfather Richard Wright and Ann Harrison, married January 10, 1791 in Strensll , Yorkshire, England.

To celebrate these deep roots, and the current living descendants - a RICHARD & MARGARET(Fulton)WRIGHT DESCENDENTS family reunion was held on Saturday July 29th 2006 at the Dugald Community Hall, in Manitoba. Over 50 adult descendants and a dozen or so great grandchildren attended.

Ellen Wright, (nee Sutherland) at a very spry eighty eight years, and one of only two surviving daughters-in-law, was very much in attendance, participated in several activities planned for the day. "Aunt Nelly" addressed all those in attendance, and her daughter Carol, said Grace before dinner.

Following dinner, a 'slide show' of almost 500 heritage WRIGHT family photographs was shown, as submitted by all the descendants. Copies of these photographs, and a "Richard Wright Family Tree Album" were given to all who attended.

Richard's other daughter-in-law, Beatrice Wright, wife of Preston, lives in Sudbury Ontario and unfortunately was not able to travel such a long distance, but sent her 'best wishes' via her son, Donald.

RICHARD & MARGARET WRIGHT represent the maternal lineage for the site host, Bob Esselmont. He and spouse Jackie thoroughly enjoyed renewing family links, resulting from our decades 'away' from our Manitoba family.

The site is hosted by Bob Esselmont.

It was formerly the home of the "Esslemont Global Family" website, until it grew too large to stay here. This Esslemont information is now located at http://home.iprimus.ca/~bobesselmont/

I invite YOU to e-mail me (at right) with any information or observations you might have that would further a mutual understanding of our "Wright roots".

* For security and privacy reasons, the names of those living are published without dates. Females are listed under their birthname. For further information about such individuals (who have also agreed to it being made available) please contact the site host directly.
