My heritage---John H. Esterline came to the US from Bavaria, Germany or Prussia, circa 1833. He lived in Spencer County, Indiana. On May 1, 1853, he married Mary Ann Miller. Eight children were born to Mary Ann and John H; William Henry, Mary Caroline, Anna Catherine, John Wesley, Rachel Jane, Alice B, George W, and Ida Venora. John H. was a farmer. He died on Christmas Day, 1895, in Spencer County.John Wesley Esterline was born January 4, 1859, in Spencer County, Indiana. He married Mary Ann Farmer, February 22, 1877. John Wesley and Mary Ann had 14 children; Eley Grace, Thomas Elmer, Cordia Louise, Clara, Grover Cleveland, Frederick, Edie, Ethel, Johnny, Ada Bessie, Mary, Eugene, Molly, Ruth E. John Wesley moved with his family to southeast Missouri circa 1887. He owned a farm near Bernie, MO. He also served as a Baptist Minister. Following Mary Ann's death, he married Amanda Coffee. John Wesley died April 12, 1937 and was buried at Bernie, MO.Thomas Elmer Esterline (answered to Elmer) was born August 6, 1879 in Spencer County, IN. He moved with his father to Bernie< MO when he was eight years of age. On August 7, 1904, He married Nettie May Cunningham, the daughter of John Bell and Sarah (Lance) Cunningham. Elmer and Nettie had fifteen children; William Edward, Mary Marie, Lettie Arthula, Sarah Vivian, Dora Eugena, Ruth, Leroy, Freida Angeline, John Wycliff, Alene Wyona, Illa Fae, Howard Glenn, Leveda Louise, Dawn, and Doris Orela. Elmer farmed near Malden, Bernie, Parma, and Fis, MO. He also served as a Minister for The Church of the Nazarene and The Church of God. He died August 8, 1961 and was buried at Bernie ,MO.Howard Glenn Esterline was born June 13, 1924 near Bernie, MO. He graduated from Bernie High School in 1942. He served in the US Army Infantry during WWII and was a German POW for four months. He married Lela Catherine Adams, daughter of Odis and Wilma (Howell) Adams, May 12, 1946 at Piggott, AR. Howard and Lela had four children; Richard Eugene, Kathyrn Ann, Carolyn Sue, and Arthur Ray. Following Lela's death, Howard married Peggy Lois Altman, daughter of C.D. and Lucille (Abraham) Altman, December 19, 1958, in ST. Louis, MO. Howard and Peggy had four children; Charita Glenita, Tracy Diane, Howard Glenn Jr, and Melissa Collette. Howard was a farmer in the early years. He intered the ministry of The Church of the Nazarene in 1948. He Graduated from Trevecca Nazarene College (now Trevecca Nazarene University) in June, 1951, withe a BA. He also did graduate work at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO, Jonesboro, AR, Washington University in St. Louis, MO, and California State in San Jose, CA. He served as Pastor of churches in Missouri, California, and Arizona.Researching surnames: Esterline, Altman, Cunningham, in Arkansas, Missouri, Illinois and Indiana.I am particular interested in hearing from anyone who has traced Esterline back to Germany with spelling Oesterling, Esterlein, or Esterling
