      2. James Robert(Bob) Etherton,Jr., born 1907 in Indiana; died 1958 in St. Petersburg, Florida. He was the son of 4. James Robert(Jim) Etherton,Sr. and 5. Effie Maude Rowe. He married 3. Ruth Elizabeth Gurtz 1931 in Indiana.

      3. Ruth Elizabeth Gurtz, born 1907 in Depauw, Indiana; died 1998 in Louisville, Kentucky. She was the daughter of 6. Gustava (Gus) William Edward Gurtz and 7. Ida Belle Martin.

Notes for James Robert(Bob) Etherton,Jr.:
James Robert Etherton, Jr. (Bob) (1907-1958) was the only child of James R. Etherton, Sr. and Effie Rowe. Graduate of Culver Military Academy & the U. of Indiana where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. Married Ruth Gurtz on July 4, 1931 in New Albany, Ind. Later, he and Ruth divorced. He was a salesman, working for several companies, including the Kerr Glass company. Enlisted in the Army in 1942 during WWII. His experience as a food broker helped him get promoted to "food purchaser" at Fort Jackson, S.C. He married Jimma Daugherty and moved to Lexington, Ky. where he owned and operated a food brokerage company. They had one child, Becky. He served in the Korean War, as an officer in the Quartermaster Corps, after his reserve unit was
activated. He was stationed at the Tokyo Quartermaster Depot, in charge of 5 Commissary Stores. His unit helped supervise the loading of the last ships to depart Hungnam, North Korea during the final evacuation of U.S. troops from North Korea. In the mid-1950's he and Jimma moved to St. Petersburg, Fl. where he sold real estate. He died in St. Petersburg, Fl. of a heart attack and is buried there in a military cemetery.


Notes for Ruth Elizabeth Gurtz:
Ruth Elizabeth Gurtz born in 1907 in Depauw, Ind. One of 4 children born to Ida Belle and Gus Gurtz. She attended Indiana State Teachers College at Terra Haute, Ind., obtaining a 2 year teaching degree. Taught school prior to marrying Bob and having her two sons. Lived in Huntington, W.Va. until she and Bob divorced. Moved back to Indiana (New Albany & Corydon). She married Chuck Bain (a Navy chief) on Jan. 20, 1945 in Bainbridge, Md. living there & in New
Orleans, La. After Chuck's discharge from the Navy the family moved to Gulfport, Miss. where Chuck was a coach and physical education teacher at the Merchant Marine Academy in Pass Christian, Miss. In 1949 a hurricane destroyed the academy & Chuck was transferred to the Merchant Marine Academy at Kingsport, N.Y. The rest of the family remained in Gulfport for the remainder of the year & moved to Louisville, Ky. Chuck coached & was later principal of Fairdale H.S. After Chuck's death she worked at Indiana Arsenal, Jeffersonville, Ind. After retiring she moved to Ashland, Ky. to live with her sister Wanda later returning to Louisville where she lived until her death in 1998. She is buried in Corydon, Ind.

  ii.   Don Edward Etherton,Sr., born 1937; married (1) Deanna(1st wife) Moore in Louisville, Kentucky; born 1940; died Abt. 1999 in Louisville, Kentucky; married (2) Valerie(2nd wife) Powell; born 1958.
