Fall of 1861 joined Company K, 2nd Arkansas Cavalry



John Baptist Donathan



Company K , Gordon's Regiment Cavalry as a private and was promoted to Sergeant. He enlisted July 7, 1862, at Roseville, Arkansas, for the duration of the war.



Daniel Donathan



Enlisted as a private in Captain Gipson's Company A, 2nd Regiment, Arkansas Mounted Rifles, (later Company A, 2nd Regiment, Arkansas Mounted Rifles). Enlisted October 1, 1861 for 12 Months.

On April 30, 1862, he was reported absent sick, and on The June muster roll was absent without leave.

(He had gone home to see about his family and was killed)



William N Donathan &

Charles Henry Donathan



Both enlisted in Captain Gipson's Company A, 2nd Regiment, Arkansas Mounted Rifles. They were on the roll of original members of "The Booneville Rifles". They were on the July 18, 1961 roll.

Francis Jane Donathan statement (John Baptist Donathan in Texas)



I was married to him on the 17th day of May A.D. 1864 in of Ft. Smith, Ark. Crawford County, in the State of Arkansas. (Crawford County????)

He was honorably discharged or paroled He was paroled about April, 1864, the Yankees came to Ft. Smith and captured him and some more boys, but he escaped, He had his horse shot from under him, and 3 bullets through his hat brim. The Yankees scattered them like quail.

He served about 1 year. He was only 17 years old when he enlisted.

He enlisted early 1863 and paroled the early part of 1864.

He served under General Cabble's Regiment, and his Lienut's name was Spaldwin. I don't remember the name of the Co.

The Comptroller , State of Texas

The records show that one J. B. Donathan, not found as John B. Donathan Private, Company K, Gordon's Regiment Arkansas Cavalry, enlisted July 7, 1862, at Roseville.

Muster roll for May and June 1863, shows him present, promoted to Sergeant June 20, 1863. His name is not borne on the subsequent rolls of file of the Company, which cover is part the period from July 7, 1862, to January and February 1864, and no later record has been found.

The above mentioned Regiment served as part of Cabell's Brigade, District of Arkansas.

J. B. Donathan statement (Jerry in Arkansas)



I J. B. Donathan do solemnly swear that I served as a soldier in the Army of the Confederate States, being a member of 2ND ARK REGIMENT OF CAVALRY FROM THE STATE OF ARKANSAS. That I was honorably discharged on or about April 1865.

R T Strange Physician of Logan County

J. B. Donathan has no gunshot wound. but find him weak Nervous & Senile debility.

Mr. Donathan is now seventy -two years of age and his condition now is what you would expect of a man of his age.

Jeremiah Benjamin (J.B.) Donathan pension was approved from the State of Arkansas. Filed in Auditors Office Jul 28, 1913. Application # 5924 Mary received a pension after he died.

John Baptist Donathan born December 1846 joined July 1862. He would have been 15 1/2 years old.

Only J B, Daniel, William, and Charles are listed in the Confederate Army. Is this J. B. Jeremiah or John?

Jeremiah B. Donathan enrolled 1 Dec 1863 at Dardanelle, Arkansas in the Second Arkansas Union Infantry Co. B. Birthplace Jackson County, Alabama. Deserted at Dardanelle, Arkansas 13 May 1864.

Benjamin Franklin was killed November 1864 is there a connection?



Each Confederate State handled disbursement of pensions to Soldiers who lived in their State. The Federal Government gave each State an allotment to fund their state pension plan.
