Notes for C
IRENE REBBECCA "RENA" TRAINER:
Was called "Rena"

Was said to have been faithful to visit all her children after they were grown.
She died of a stroke while visiting her two daughters, Clara & Nina in Dallas, TX.
She was described by her granddaughter, Rubye Alexander Wyche, as being "short, plump and with lovely white hair". She loved to read and often read while churning butter. She took a feather mattress and her rocking chair whenever she visited her children. She claimed to hate the taste of vanilla, but her grandchildren would sneak it into the foods they baked and she never seemed to notice.

She received $25/mos. as a pension for being a Confederate Widow. She saved $10/mos. of this for her children to care for her in her elder years. This money was eventually used to pay for her funeral costs. It was said that she never wanted to be buried in the Hickey Cemetary, but her children insisted on burying her next to her husband, James.

A copy of the Widow's Application for Confederate Pension in which Cirene made application for pension of James Boyd Alexander's service in civil war was obtained from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. It included a copy of Cirene's son, Alfred's, Application for Mortuary Warrant, in which he applied to receive pension funds to cover Cirene's funeral expenses.

This researcher is in possession of a letter written by Serena to her son, Alfred A. Alexander postmarked May 8, 1892 and addressed to "O'Daniels" in Guadalupe Co., TX. The envelope has a postmark from Bishop, TX on the front and a postmark from Seguine, TX on the back.
