Obituary: (Lyons Herald) January 5, 1939

George A. Stiles, aged 82 years on the 5th(?) of December, died at his farm home about three miles southeast of Lyons. He was stricken with pneumonia some five weeks ago, and the disease was too much to battle at his advanced age, death coming at ? in the afternoon Saturday, December 31.

Deceased was born in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, and came with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Stiles, to Michigan when he was a young man, the family settling for a time in North Plains township. They later moved to the locality where he died, and following his marriage he purchased a small farm in that neighborhood, where he has since lived - 51 years. Mrs. Stiles died many years ago, leaving to his care a daughter and son. The daughter died during the world war, and the son Karl (Earl) Stiles, died ten years ago.

He is survived by three sisters, Miss Ida Stiles and Mrs. Hettie Benjamin, who live in the old home neighborhood, and Mrs. Frank Townsend of north of Muir. Mr. and Mrs. B. G. Benjamin moved to the Stiles farm home seven years ago and have since cared for Mr. Stiles.

Funeral services were held from the late farm home Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. Peter Bissett, pastor of the Lyons Baptist church. Interment was made in the Lyons cemetery.

Death Notice: (Ionia Daily Sentinel) December 26, 1918

Mrs. Howard De LaVergne died Saturday, her husband having preceded her to the grave only a few days. Her condition was so serious when her husband died that it was thought advisable not to inform her of his death, his remains being quietly taken from the home to Bradt's undertaking rooms in Lyons. They had one daughter, whose life was also despaired of for a time, but it is now thought that she will survive. Last year the family came into possession of the old Goodwin 80-acre farm, five miles northeast of Muir, and while they were moving in, the house was totally destroyed by fire, since which time they have occupied temporary quarters on the place in anticipation of the new house they were preparing to build.
