UNIVERSALLY respected by clergy and laity alike, Msgr. McCabe served the Detroit diocese and archdiocese for more than 45 years. He was pastor of St. Theresa since its founding 30 years ago. He was known as a powerful spiritual leader and builder of one of the important parishes in the archdiocese.

He was then directed to oversee the development of a new parish on North Grand River. Purchasing the present site on the feast day of Theresa of Avila, the edifice took its name from that of the saint.
The first church seated 500, with Msgr. McCabe chanting the First mass in September, 1916. In February the three story school building was erected.
In 1923 plans were laid for a larger church which was dedicated in 1927 by the late Bishop Gallagher.
Later a convent housing the Dominican Sisters and the final decorative effects of the church were completed.
Several years ago when Archbishop Mooney, of Detroit, reestablished the deanery system in the archdiocese, Msgr. McCabe was appointed Dean of the Western Deanery.
In August, 1944, Pope Pius XI elevated him to the rank of domestic prelate, with the title of Monsignor, and last August, Assumption College presented him a bronze plaque in recognition of his life work, and service to the college.
