Obituary; Carson City Gazette, 2-19-1948 Funeral services were conducted in St. John the Baptist Church in Hubbardston for Miss Margaret Loftus Monday forenoon, Feb. 16. Rev. E.R. Fox conducted the services assisted by Rev Jos. Coyle and Rev. Thos. Beahan under the auspices of the Burns Funeral Home, interment; being in the cemetery close by, beside her parents. Miss Loftus was the last of her immediate family and was born June 17, 1862 on the old Loftus homestead, west of Hubbardston, and passed away after several years of ill health from diseased heart on Feb. 11, 1948, at the home of a great niece, Mrs. Martha (Herald) Fahey and family, west of Hubbardston. She had a nature of compassion and pioneer endurance and took care of her father and mother and every member of her family of which there were four brothers and four sisters. After her family duties were ended she kept house for Rev. J. J. McCabe in Hubbardston for awhile then moved with the household to Detroit where Father McCabe started the now flourishing parish of St. Theresa. After some years Miss Loftus was compelled to give up her strenuous duties on account of falling health and returned to Hubbardston where she lived alone. These last years she spent much time in hospitals and in the homes of relatives, with niece, Mrs. Lla Lynch particularly, on account of ill health. While able, she took care of the sick in many homes and was a devout Catholic. She will be sadly missed by many and among her nieces and nephews no one can take the place of Aunt Maggie. Those from away who attended the funeral were Wm. Hogan and son, Gaylord , of Lansing, Jos. Appel and Mrs. Josephine Appel of Detroit. The Clinton County Republican-News, February 19, 1948, page 2, column 4 Miss Margaret Loftus passed away last Wednesday, Feb. 11 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Fahey where she had been making her home. Her funeral held Monday morning at 10 o'clock at the St. John's Catholic church, and was laid to rest in the family lot in the Catholic cemetery. Wm. Hogan and son of Lansing, Joseph and Josephine Apple of Detroit and Mr. and Mrs. Libby Tompson of Detroit attended the services. |
