Date of deed was 7 June 1793. The land involved was 1land that Charles Hulsey bought from Thomas Lewis on 9 March 1790. We can assume that Charles died sometime between 9 March 1790 and 7 June 1793. The deedfrom Thomas Lewis was to Charles Hudlesley, which together with the spelling in the 1793 deed, creates some confusion as to the early spelling of the name. By 1800 most of Hulsey family had moved to Franklin Co GA. The Franklin County Tax Digest shows all of these names except John and Adam. Joel first appeared in the 1818 Franklin Co. GA. tax digest as having paid a poll tax of .31 cents 2 1/2 mills, a tax required of each male after reaching age of 21. In 1820 census of Hall Co. GA. part of Franklin Co. the Hulseys were living in became Hall Co. Dec. 1818. In the 1820 Land Lottery he was granted land in adjioning Gwinnett Co. GA, Joel was shown as resident of Hall Co. GA. Joel and his wife , Clarissa, lived in Hall Co. GA until after 1830census. Joel, wife and eight children in 1830 census Hall Co.. Must have moved to TN after 1830 census shows Hardin 1832 and William1836 born there. 1840 census of Dade Co. GA entire family there. Dade Co. carved fromWalker Co. 12-25-1837 located in northwest corner of GA. It was last frontier east of the Mississippi River and had just had Cherokees removed to Oklahoma. The Hulseys had lived close to Cherokees for over 50 years since in ofRevolutionary War. Joel and his entire family were still living in Dade Co GA at the time ofthe 1850 census. Most of his children were married at the time and hadchildren of their own. Joel's first wife Clarissa died in 1842 and hemarried Rebecca. His 11th and last child was born in 1846. About 1852 the entire Joel Hulsey family, including most of his marriedchildren and their children moved to Fannin Co. TX. The 1860 census findsno Hulseys in Dade Co. GA. In 1854 Joel's second wife died and he remarried the same year to Miss.Amaritta Arnold. They had no children. Joel was named as a legatee in estate settlement of Robert Barnwell.
