He married (1) MARTHA ANN SHELFIELD December 23, 1877 in Paulding Co., Ga., daughter of JOHN SHELFIELD and LUCINDA WALKER. He married (2) ETTA MAXWELL August 24, 1900 in Paulding Co., Ga.. She was born April 1872 in GA. He married (3) LUCY JANE DUDLEY April 1922, daughter of DAVID DUDLEY and CHINESSA TIDWELL. She died August 02, 1944.

UCY JANE DUDLEY:
Lucy was a Cherokee Indian and came into Cherokee inheritance in Oklahoma. She also was married to
James J. G. 's brother, John Wesley.

Lucy is enrolled on the Dawes Final Rolls - #14275.
Her cencus card is #5967, which gives some interesting details on her family and background ancestry. For example, Lucy & John were married 2 times. The 1st. in Ga. & then again in Flint, Oklahoma by Benjamin F. Paden.
The 2nd. marriage was performed in accordance to the Cherokee Nation's proscribed customs. This was done so John could be adopted into the tribe. He was formally adopted and listed on the Cherokee Roll of 1896 (pg. 829) #193. He appplied for enrollment on the Dawes Final Rolls, but all adopted members of the tribe were refused. Only those directly related through blood were enrolled.

Lucy actually married John twice once in GA. then the second time in Flint, Oklahoma.
