OHN WESLEY TWILLEY:
Most of this information was supplied by Daisy, Clay, and Pledger L..
John's first trip out to Oklahoma was to make the early land rushes in Oklahoma in the 1880's. He claimed some land & sold it. He walked back home (to Paulding Co., Ga.). The family story has it that he put his money in his shoes. When he got home, he found that he had worn a hole in his shoes and through the money. He had to have the money exchanged for new money at the bank.
John Wesley, his son William, a mining engineer from Texas, and Shug got the money together to go into the gold mining business back in Paulding Co., Ga. This would have been about 1914. From what the old timers remember, it was quite a nice mining operation. It consisted of rails and cars back into the mine, a steam engine to power a crusher and pumps, and a sluice pan for washing the gold from the crushed ore.
When they got the mine to producing, a gentleman from Dallas, Ga. offered them $42,000 for the operation. Since they had a total investment of about $5,000 and the mine wasn't producing so well, Shug and William wanted to sell, according to Nathen and others. John Wesley and the engineer wanted to hold out for more money. The mining venture went busted completely. William and John Wesley lost all they owned in the venture.
John Wesley and William went back to Oklahoma where John died during the flu epidemic of 1919.

UCY JANE DUDLEY:
Lucy was a Cherokee Indian and came into Cherokee inheritance in Oklahoma. She also was married to
James J. G. 's brother, John Wesley.

Lucy is enrolled on the Dawes Final Rolls - #14275.
Her cencus card is #5967, which gives some interesting details on her family and background ancestry. For example, Lucy & John were married 2 times. The 1st. in Ga. & then again in Flint, Oklahoma by Benjamin F. Paden.
The 2nd. marriage was performed in accordance to the Cherokee Nation's proscribed customs. This was done so John could be adopted into the tribe. He was formally adopted and listed on the Cherokee Roll of 1896 (pg. 829) #193. He appplied for enrollment on the Dawes Final Rolls, but all adopted members of the tribe were refused. Only those directly related through blood were enrolled.

Lucy actually married John twice once in GA. then the second time in Flint, Oklahoma.
***Lucy is enrolled on the Dawes Finan Rolls and her Dawes Roll number is:14275
***Her census card #5967, which gives some interesting details on her family and background. For example, Lucy and John were married the second time by Benjamin F. Paden. LONZO LORENZO DOWELL TWILLEY:
LDS Record # AFN:3213-84
When he was about 5 years old, he fell into a stump hole and broke both his ankles. His sister pulled him out of the hole. His feet never straightened and he walked on the side of his feet with the aid of walking canes all the rest of his life.
During the Great Depression, Shug suffered heavy financial losses and had a nervous mental collapse. He was committed to the Alabama State Mental Hospital at Tuscaloosa, Alabama. After a short stay, he returned home & lived twenty or so more years a normal and happy life.
Shug loved the Lord, played the fiddle and really enjoyed going fishing.
During his later years he would ride his old mule in & out of places that lots of people would fear to walk.
Shug divided his farm among his heirs in 1948, and the ones that preferred cash were paid off by the ones who wanted the land. His descendents, by Georgia: Jasper, Rev. Taylor and Nathen make up quite a sizeable community in that area.
Shug's life ventures included: gold mining, saw milling, farming, coton ginning, investing, and just as much fishing as he could work in. He's greatest successes were in farming and fishing and raising a big family.
There is some controversy about the correct name of this individual.
He is Cleo's Grandfather and she says his name was Alonzo Dale but there are others that say the name was Lorenzy Dallas Twilley. The Tombestone reads Lorenzy D.Twilley.
