He was he was shot by the Revolutionaries while crossing the Rhine River east of Neuwiller, Alsace, France, and died in the town of Steinbach, Baden, Germany NAPOLEONIC WAR DEATHS OF SCHIRRHEIN-SCHIRRHOFFEN CITIZENS These wars took place during the period in which our ancestors still lived in Schirrhein and Schirrhoffen. It is clear that some of the familiar names here were our ancestors or their brothers and cousins. Name, age, death, notes - Georges Halter, 34, 2 Aug 1807, wounded at Artz in the vicinity of Massova and died in the hospital at Stettin. He was a Hussar in the 1st Squadron - Henri Schlosser, 28, 22 May 1808 in the Battle of Esslingen (Germany) - Charles Dorffer, (no age) was admitted to the Bolgal hospital on 21 Jan 1808 and died 6 Feb 1808. He was a Fusilier in the 1st Company, 3d Battalion of the 98th Regiment. - Nicolas Mayer, 20, 17 Jun 1811 in the hospital at Thionville. He was a Fusilier in the 1st Company, 5th Battalion of the 96th Regiment. - Joseph Steinmetz, 21, 23 Jun 1813 in the hospital at Muenster-Lippe. He was a Fusilier in the 152d Regiment of the line.
