He was borned n the home of hs parents n Nottingham District Prnce George County, Marylandabout l708.
n 1730 his father entailed upon him the plantaton called"Thorpland" lyng on Collington Branch, three mles north of Upper Marlborough.
In l737 Dr. Pottinger deededto his son-in-law, John Bowie ,"on account of my love and affecton for hm", a large plantation n Queen Anne Parish.Ths added to the land given hm by his father, and that received by his frst wife, whch she nherted from her father, and also located on Collington Branch, made John Bowe, Jr., an extensve land-owner. n l747 he increased his real estate by the purchase of a plantation called "The Hermitage", owned by Thomas Harrs, stuated about twelve miles north of the present city of washington, and lying in Frederick County, now Montgomery County, This property is yet owned by his decendants. Nov 29, l752, John Bowie Jr. executed a wil; refers to himself as being "in a low and anguid state of health,but of sound mind." named his wife executrix, and requested that his brother, Thomas Bowie, and his son-in-law, James Magruder, act as guardians for his children. The will was probated in Feb. l753. He did not mention his eldest son by the first wife, or the entailed propety Called "Thorpland"/ His son, Allen, was give "The Hermitage," and his two other sons, james and john, land in Prince Georg's County, called "pine Thickett" and "pine Thickett, enlarged." Personal porperty was left his daughter, and a samll provson was made for an expect child then unborn. He s sad to have been buried at "thorpland".

He is the son of Richard Clagett Sr. of croom and his wife Deborah Dorsey.Richard Clagett Sr. Deeded to hs son, Edward, n l732 a large tract of land, being part of his extensive estate called "croom".
In Jul 1755, Edward Clagett and his wife Eleanor, deeded to their son, John Clagett, allarge portion the croom property just prior to the marriage of the young man.In l756 Eleanor and Edward Clagett sold to John Bowie, Sr., another lare part of the Croom porperty, and this was a few years later devised by John Bowie to the younger children of his daughter.
