he was raised however at Franklin on Lake St. Joseph Tansas Parish Louisiana, which was his parents home. Like his borthers he was prepared for college by private tutors; went first to aokland college, mississippi, then to the Univeristy of Virginia and fianlly to the University of North Carolina. Was in the graduating class of l86l when the ar came one. Resigned his prospects for collegiate honors, and with is two brothers enlisted as a pivatedin comappny a Wirt Adams Regiment of Cavalry, Confederat States Army. Was tansferred to the Trans-Mississippi Department, promoted to lieutenant, and assigned to General Majors staff. While stationed in Nathces, he met Cleeste Vidal page, After the war was over renewed his acquaintance anad married her at Natchez on May 7,l866. Thomas C. Bowie or "TAM' as he was generally known took his bride to Franklin where he engaged in cottonplanting until his death April l,l880 from a pulmonary disease contracted from exposure and hardshipsin the army. He s wife survcied him several years . After she died he children removed otphiadelphai and resided with their moather family.
