Charley as alomst everyone called him was born on his parent Seap-Hollow farm near Devine. He was reared in Devine, where he attended Dvine High School, quitting before graduation to attend Tyler Business College from which he earned a dipolma.

His principal occupation was book-keeping and insurance. He worked for a bank in Alice in the l920. He had been a manager for a general merchandise establishments. He at one time worked for Adams Co. in Devine. In later life, he was the owner-operator of a cleaners in San Antonio called Aviation Cleaners.

He was interested in sports especially baseball and fooball. He played amateur baseball and was a member of his home town baseball team.

His hobbiers were fishing, hunting, and some gardening.

Bernetta Gardner was known to all as Ruth. She dropped her first name between l00 and l9l0. Her grandchildren called her "Foofie" because her youngest granddaughter Jo Ann could not ssay Grandmother Ruthie.

For many years she owned and operated a dress design and making shop on Houston St. in downtown San Antonio, Texas

As an excellent diesinger and sewing expert, she kept her family in the latest clothing trends. Her formal evening wear was specatcular. She made all of her grandaughter Particia's formals for her dances at Thomas Jefferson High Schol.

She taught her daughter Charlotte and her two granddaughters to sew. She passed along many tips and hints that made sewing easier and fun.

During the summer, he often was away umpiring baseball games for the Texcas League. In later life after retirement he was a scout for the Los Angles Dogers and the n for a SanFrancisco team. He scouted the south and wst for players fo these teams minor clubs.

He loved to hunt both birds and deer in our South Texas county.
