I am researching the family of Antoine Bellard and Marie-Francoise Galland of Picardy, France, ca 1720-1780. On 5 Jan., 1769 their son Antoine Bellard,Jr., first-known of his line in America, was aboard the vessel La Bretanna out of Portobacco, VA., bound for New Orleans. Among the other passengers were a group of exiled Acadian families and some German immigrants planning to settle in LA. One of the Acadian families was that of Honore Trahan and Marie Corporon, whose daughter Marie was at that time or shortly thereafter married to Antoine. Jr. After enduring shipwreck and untold hardship, the group arrived in LA.about 1770. Antoine and Marie settled in what was then Imperial St.Landry Parish. Antoine died 12 Feb., 1805. He was a Revolutionary War soldier serving with Galvez's Louisiana Legion. Many of his descendants still live in LA, and reside mostly in the parishes of Acadia and St. Landry. They are related to most of the earliest Acadian families of Nova Scotia, as well as to many of the French-Canadian families whose names are represented in LA. I have much information on this and related families. I should be glad to share with anyone researching them. Also researching: BONN/BOND/BONNER; BOURASSA; CORKERN; DICKENSON; GAY; KNIGHT; LEWIS, LOWE; MONTGOMERY; WATSON; WEST |
