My RAY/KERR Family Home Page

Updated June 26, 2009

A United States of America Marine from Birmingham, Alabama know as GC Ray (Governor Cobb Ray Jr.) and an Australian Army Nurse from Melbourne, Victoria, Australia know as Gladys Kerr (Gladys May Tregarthen Kerr) met in a hospital in Australia, fell in love, married and settled in America. They lived in Birmingham, Alabama until 1963 when they moved to San Francisco, California.
Their family consisted of one boy and four girls, the oldest child being born in Australia during the two year wait for the nurse to be able to come to America.

Very little information about the ancestry of the Marine is known, while much about the ancestry of the Australian is known.

What is known about GC Ray are the following surnames: Ray, Reece or Reese, Littlejohn, Pinson, Finley or Findley and Thomas. We do now know that GC and 2 of his 3 siblings were born in and around Oneonta, or Cleveland, in Blount County, and in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama. The youngest sibling Era "Mildred" Ray (Hickman) was born in Georgia.

GC Ray and Gladys Kerr had 5 children, 7 granchildren and 7 great grandchildren as of June 2009.
