Isom died, 10 / 29 / 1897, in Bell County Texas. In another place she wrote he married in Lee Co., Mississippi, the 20 / Jan. / 1875. The first was suppose to have come from a grandson, Earl Akin, son of Sam Akin. Sam was the son of Polly and Isom Akin. The second statement came from "Comptroller of Public Accounts ", State of Texas. Polly, wife of Isom gave the information when she applied for a pension.

Isom Akin Married Martha Cranford. He came from Alabama to Mississippi, his people were originally from the Carolinas. On Jan. 3, 1868, Isom bought land in Lee County, Mississippi. Although Isom bought land in Lee Co. in 1868, and sold the last of his land in 1875, he was not shown in the 1870 census for Lee County.
Isom served in Co. B 1 ( Johnstons ) Mississippi Infantry, Confederate Private, during Civil War. He mustered in at Iuka, Miss., Aug. 24, 1861 and was captured at Port Hudson, La. July 9, 1863. The name of J. Akin appears on roll of prisoners of war paroled at Port Hudson, La., July 12, and 13, 1863. Soldiers name also appears as Isaam and Isom with name appearing on " Report of the Name of Officers and Men on the 1st Miss. Regiment " surrendered at Ft. Donelson, Feb 16, 1862 By N.G. Watts, Major C.S.A., and agent for exchange of prisoners of War. Company muster rolls dated March and April 1864 and July and Aug. of the same year show solder absent since Aug. 23, 1863 with enlistment Sept. 19, 1861 by Major Hewett, period one year. The Aug. 24 to Sept 19, 1861 payroll shows soldier muster in Aug. 24, 1861, and was age 38. The Aug. 28, 1861 to Aug. 28, 1862, Co. muster roll shows soldier age 36, and a private in Capt. Merriman Pound's Company ( Morrisville Darts ) 1st Regiment Miss. Volunteers, which subsequently became know as Company B. 1st Regiment, Miss. Infantry. Soldiers name appears as J.L. Akin in one instance, the surname appears as Akin, Akines, Akins.

Isom was born around the year 1823. On Jan 26, 1875, Isom sold land in Lee Co., Miss. and gave his wife, Martha 53 1/3 acres as a dowery. around 1875 he ran away with another woman, who was a Mrs. Taylor, and went to Texas. One caught the train at Saltille and the other at Guntown, Miss., so that people wouldn't see them leave together.
Isom Akin, after leaving Mississippi, married Polly Bell Taylor. they went to Texas sometime after 1891. Isom died in Texas. They had the following child:

{She Wrote,} ? " As told by Earl: ", Isom chewed tobacco, always wore white stiff shirt even to work in. Robbed bee hives bare handed. Had a horse no one could catch unless he told the horse to let them. Was building a chimney at Rogers, Texas, liked 4 bricks being through, fell off chimney. Died as a result of fall.
Sam Akin lived to be middle aged. Don't know who married, went to dance, got in a fight and got killed.
