The Feir Family in CanadaUpdated March 3, 2012 | |
| The Feir family came to Canada from Ireland in 1837 and landed in Port Hope, Ont. The parents, Best and Jane Feir, along with four of their seven children, followed another son, John Feir, who had come out earlier and died in November 1836. The parents along with several of their children remained in Port Hope, while the other two children moved north into Emily and Ops Townships. My ancestor, Alexander Feir, was an apprentice millwright and helped to build a number of mills in the Peterborough area of Ontario before finding a location in southern Ops where he settle his family. This location became known as Feir's Mill and is recorded as such on maps. |
