This page is devoted to the family history of the Phillips Family of Fairfield and Lancaster County, South Carolina.The Phillips family was from Northern Ireland and were Scotch-Irish. John, James, Robert,Thomas, Mary and Rachel Phillips and theirdescendants. John Phillips immigrated in 1760 ? date unknown with Wife Elizabeth and seven children.He remained loyal to the King during the Revolution, serving as a Colonel and advisor to Lord Cornwallis. He was banished and his estates confiscated in 1782. During the Revolution two of his sons were killed, David and Laurence, his Brother, Robert, d.Aug.25,1782, and two children, a girl,Feb.18,1782 and another child,Sept.31,1782. John Phillips was in charge of the Refugees and was pay master for the Royal Militia from Camden district. John and his family returned to Ireland where he died in 1809. One of his sons, Robert married Agnes? of Fairfield Cty.and remained in Fairfield Cty. He is mentioned in John's will. Robert Phillips,( John and James brother) died as refugee in Charlestown,in 1782 had a he had a wife and family who applied for reimbursement of his estate. James Phillips, according to Florida records, served as Commander in Florida, he is listed amoung the refugees in Charlestown.He was married to Susannah ? children were Robert, Smith,David,born after the Revolution, and Phillip. Thomas Phillips is listed in the Records of the Proprietary council of South Carolina as having "gone to the enemy". He buried a child Jul.1, 1782. He went to Nova Scotia and settled there.Any information on Thomas would be appreciated. The naming patterns in the family shows that each generation had a Robert, James, David. I am trying to connect Robert with the correct father. Any information is appreciated. |
