Elizabeth "Ellie" Guranowsky Litowich (1878-1925), Scott's maternal great-grandmother, was the daughter of Rabbi Abraham Guranowsky of NYC, and reportedly the first in his family to have a formal education. The campus of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, NY, is in the background.
