This photograph depicts my paternal grandmother, Lillian Elsie Noonan Barnes, and a friend (on left), standing outside of 11-year-old Elsie's house in the Roxbury section of Boston. Faintly visible in the left background of the picture is the Fort Hill tower, an old Boston landmark.
