In this photo Joseph Alexander Gray, husband of Henrietta Smith Delano Gray, looks to be an old man. However, information on the Gray family taken from the federal census records seems to indicate Joseph died before he was 50 years old. He may have had tuberculosis or some other debilitating disease, which might explain his elderly appearance in this photo, identified as taken "at the Hot Springs" (perhaps he went for a "rest cure" of some sort...).
