Ancestors & Their Descendants of Suella Jane Leis

 		I have added a lot more since my last update (01/04/2008), I now have over 50,000 names in my entire tree. All my sides link together so many times, that it makes it impossible to trace just one side. I have also added some siblings and their families to my tree to help me in my research. Not everything is in this report, so if you have questions or need more information, please email me.
I have met a lot of friends and relatives through the Internet that I did not know existed, that have been very helpful in compiling this information. Thank you everyone!!! With a database this large, it is impossible not to make errors. This information is to help in aiding you to locate your ancestors, please check all info and sources before copying information. It is not my intent to offend anyone, but if I have helped one person it is worth my time and effort, so if you see any errors, or have any additional information please contact me.
I am searching for descendants of Johann Peter Leis/Leiss. He was born in Berks Co., PA on Feb 01, 1778, and died in Montgomery Co., OH, Nov 13, 1865. Johann Peter Leis (known as Peter) is the first known Leis to move to Ohio, changing his surname from Leiss to Leis. I would like to exchange any information that you have on his descendants, including the migration route on his arrival in Ohio in 1832. who was in his party, pictures of family members, tombstones, etc. If you have any info or know where I can find it, please email me!!
Peter was married twice: 1st to Anna Maria "Mary" Silbilla Kalbach, Aug 23, 1801 and 2nd to Maria Catharine Schell, Feb 19, 1815. He had 10 children, 9 of which lived to adulthood. His children are as following, with spouses:

5. Johannes "John" Leis b: January 25, 1810
m: 1st: (Wife) Forry
m: 2nd: Anna Margaret Reed
m: 3rd: Catherine Leiter-Eagle
m: 4th: Catherine Rumbarger-Harter
6. Hannah b: August 08, 1811 m: Simon Hoover
7. Leah b: July 22, 1813 m: Michael Weidner
8. Salome "Sallie" b: Aug 19, 1818
m: 1st: George Leiss/Leis (they were 2nd cousins)
m: 2nd: John Sommers
9. Magdalena b: Mar 08, 1821
10. Maria Magdalena b: Nov 14, 1825

I cannot locate any information on Rebecca Shultz or Mary Reedy. If anyone has any info on these 2 girls or can guide me in the right direction, please let me hear from you!!! Also on Elvina Shoemaker or Adaline Bliss. These last two girls were listed in the will of Peter, when it was finallized in Pobate, but Rebecca Shultz was not, so one would assume that they were the daughters of Elizabeth/Rebecca (Leis) Shultz, and Rebecca was deceased before 1870.

    This picture was taken approximately 1945. It was the home of the Lawrence Leis Family, consisting of 77 acres. My dad, Lawrence Leis, farmed the land up until he became ill with cancer in 1993, passing away in 1994. It stayed in the family until 1998,at that time it was sold and torn down to be replaced with a "Huge" mansion.

  • St. Johns (now Gebhart) Cemetery, Miamisburg, OH (171 KB)
    This is an Old Cemetery, started in 1805. A lot of the tombstones are missing, broken and unreadable. The records were given to me from the Gebhart Church in Miamisburg, OH in 1994. I have revised the report to aid you in your research to locate your ancestors. Most of the people buried here are my ancestors and their families.

The original report, compiled by Mr. & Mrs. Rumbarger (1960-1965) and revised by Donald Shell (1970-1975), was given to me by the Slifer Church Secretary, in 1989. The Holp Cemetery is across the Chicken Bristle Road from the Church, which is on Clayton Road, and is sometimes confused with the Slifer Church Cemetery. I have revised the report to help aid you in your research to locate your ancestors. Most of the people buried in the Slifer and Holp Cemeteries are my ancestors and their families.
