The Ferreria family of the PhilippinesUpdated September 5, 2000 | |
| "Blood is thicker than water" my father used to always tell me. And, as I become older, the more this saying rings true to my ears. My name is David Martirez Ferreria; and I live in Los Angeles, California, U.S.A. My brothers are Richard and Vincent. I was born to Delano Lapiz Ferreria and Elizabeth Barrientos Martirez in Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A. in 1972. I grew up in the U.S., somewhat sheltered from my roots. But, I am trying to gain an understanding of it; and so I am researching my family -- the Ferreria family of the Philippines, who are principally from the province of Pangasinan. As many in the family well know, the Ferrerias have had more than healthy doses of rivalry and drama amongst its relatives. Regardless, my father taught my brothers and I to have a passion for family -- he believed that family always comes first, and that such rivalry is trivial when compared to a family's identity, togetherness, love, and the importance of passing on these ideas to subsequent generations. I feel as strongly as he did; and I hope the rest of my family does as well. I invite all of this family, regardless of the nature of relation (and many of whom I have never had contact with), to share our family's history and relations with me; so that I and other Ferrerias can pass this knowledge on to our children and ensure that our family has a sense of identity and history well into the future. I hope this site will help us create a family tree; and more importantly, serve as a forum for our family to re-discover each other, share our experiences and love. Nov 15, 1999 - I just created this site. I have most of my branch of the family (descended from Alejandro Ferreria) on a tree, which I have uploaded to this site. I recently made contact with the branch of the family descended from Calixto Ferreria (San Fabian, Pangasinan). So, I'd like to especially thank Alexie, Alejandrito and Joe Ferreria for writing to me and agreeing to help. After I receive as much information as necessary, I will create a tree for this branch, put it up on this site, and connect the branches once we find the link. If you are Ferreria with roots in the Philippines, there's a good chance you are part of our family. Please contact me. I would greatly appreciate any help I receive from any of my relatives (especially since I am here in the U.S.). Thanks.
