ENNIE (JENNY) CAPE:

The following is from Anita Dennis

My research indicates that Jane (Cape) Blankenship's first husband died ca 1795 when she is listed on the tax rolls for Bedford Co. Ua. I think he was probably a David Blankenship, but have no proof. This is my "preponderance of the evidence" such as it is. I'ue ruled out most of the other Bedford County Blankenships. David Blankenship last appeared on the Bedford Co. tax rolls in 1794, and there is a David Blankenship of an age to be Jane's son in Adair Co. KY. I have not found a marriage record, evidence of their selling land, probate records, or anything useful like that. Maybe I looked in the wrong places-

On 22 Apr 1796 Jane Blankenship is shown as head of the household in Lincoln Co, Ky. as is John Cape, presumably her brother as John Cape Sr. is still listed in Bedford Co. Va. According to Michael Cook's Lincoln Co. Records 11 Feb 1797 John Casey made a statement that Jane Blankenship was not under his "jurisdiction". I wonder if it was a typo, or if Michael Cook misread Cape For Casey as the estate of John Casey was probated in Lincoln Co. in 1798, and as it seems more likely that a relative would have been involued, but have not had an opportunity to check the original record. Jane Blankenship married Joel Crow 14 Feb 1791 in Lincoln Co. Ky. John Cape was listed as bondsman.

Jane evidently died between 1818 and 1836. 16 Nov 1818 Joel and Jane Crow of Cunberland Co. Ky sold to Elizabeth Ballenger and the heirs of Benjamin Ballenger deceased of Adair Co. 400 acres on Little Indian Creek. After that I lose track of then; didn't find them in Ky on the 1820 census. 30 Jul 1836 John Cape Sr. of Russell Co. Ky bequeathed everything to his grandson John Blankenship, son of his deceased daughter Jinney (a connon variant of Jane) choosing to leave everything to John Blankenship rather than to "other relation" because his grandson had taken care of him and his wife for many years until his wife's death and of himself since. The will was probated in July 1937.

Notes for D
AVID BLANKENSHIP:
Some researchers believe this person is John Blankenship however, John Blankenship is listed as a grandson of John Cape the father of Jane (Jenny, Jeanie) Cape. A Family Group Sheet compiled by Anita Dennis lists this person as David Blankenship and not John.

ENNIE CAPE and DAVID BLANKENSHIP are:

He is named as grandson in will of John Cape.

Marriage Notes for JOHN BLANKENSHIP and ANN MCFALL:
