Notes for D
ANIEL HARRELL:
From the book "Ferry Forebears" by Walker D. Ferry
Daniel Harrell Born, circa 1804, in Breckinridge Co., KY.
Daniel Harrel was married three or four times. One of his wives was Margaret
Davis. They had several children: Mary E. married William Kiper; Rhoda E. first
married Gus Franks and then Charles B. Carter; Thomas Jefferson married Mary
Dunn White; Eliza A.; and William F. He married Polly Ferry 4 Jun 1853. They
had Moses Harrell, born 24 Feb 1854 and died 9 Sep 1854. They probably had
other children. Polly died at "August Election 1887". Daniel was also married
to a Weedman. Daniel Harrell owned land along Little Clifty Creek where a
crossing was known as the "Daniel Harrell" crossing. The crossing was located
just above "Stone's Mill". Thomas Jefferson Harrell (see above) was separated
from his first wife and he was "batching". Early one morning he heard a knock
on his door. He went to the door without his breeches on. It was a neighbor
lady bringing him some breakfast. He was so embarrassed, he pulled his
shirt-tail up over his face.

He married Mary "Polly" Ferry (10), 4 Jun 1853, in Grayson County, KY They are cousins; his 2nd marriage, her first.

Child of M
ARY FERRY and DANIEL HARRELL is:
  i.   MOSES3 HARRELL, b. 1854; d. 1854.

4. JAMES JR.2 FERRY (JAMES1) was born December 15, 1810 in Grayson County, Kentucky, and died September 14, 1875 in Grayson County, Kentucky. He married (2) RACHEL BRATCHER, daughter of CANADA BRATCHER and MARY RAINES. She was born 1830 in Grayson County, Kentucky, and died February 2, 1905 in Grayson County, Kentucky.

Notes for J
AMES JR. FERRY:
Walker D. Ferry documents a daughter Sarah Ferry born to Rachel in 1849. He also has a daughter Malinda J. Ferry born in 1850 and married Benjamin Nugent. Virginia Armstrong has it as one daughter named Sarah Malinda that married Ben Nugent.
The book "Grayson County Deaths" has the cause of death as heart dropsey.

The following is from the book "Ferry Forebears" by Walker D. Ferry

James Ferry Jr. Born, 15 Dec 1810, in Grayson County, KY. Died, 14 Sep
1815, in Grayson County, KY. Burial in Sham Cemetery, Grayson County, KY.
Occupation: Farmer.

He married, first, E. ( ), circa 1833 (??). Born, circa 1810. Died, circa 1845.
Children:
1. Margaret
ii. Thomas.
iii. Charles. Born, circa 1838. Died in Arkansas.
iv. John J.

He married, second, Rachel C. Bratcher, daughter of Canada Bratcher , Jr.
and Mary Raines, circa 1848, in Grayson County, KY. Born, Apr 1832, in KY.
Died, 8 Feb 1905, in Grayson County, KY. Burial in Sham Cemetery, Grayson
County, KY. Occupation: Homemaker. Rachel was the second wife of James Ferry,
Jr. She was several years younger than he was. She and James took care of two
of her younger brothers who were apparently mentally handicapped. In fact one
of the brothers was still living with her in 1880, five years after James died.
Rachel is buried beside James in the Sham Cemetery just off the Short Creek -
Caneyville road in Grayson County, KY. However, all the information except her
name and the inscription "Gone but not forgotten" have been chiseled off the
stone. Frank Edward Ferry told me that the tombstone was originally on his
grandfather's grave. "Uncle Ike" died several years before "Aunt Betty": the
family had trouble matching "Uncle Ike's" marker when "Aunt Betty" died;
therefore, they decided to take the stone from "Uncle Ike's" grave, chisel the
information from it and put it on Rachel's grave. They then had matching stones
placed for "Uncle Ike" and "Aunt Betty". Rachel was enumerated with her son
Isaac and his family in the 1900 Grayson County Census. In 1994, using money
donated by her descendants, a new marker was purchased for her grave. On 2 Jan
1877, Rachel had a spn that she named Redmon Ferry. Mr. and Mrs. Golden Woosley
told me that his father was a Tilford. They both remembered Redmon well. They
said that he was a small man, very intelligent, and extremely personable They
thought that he had taught school for a while. At the time of his death, he was
a mail carrier in Caneyville, KY. Mrs. Woosley remembered both Redmon and his
wife Stella with a great deal of fondness. She remembered that she called them
"Uncle Redmon and Aunt Stella". Sue and I found records in the court house at
Hartford, KY, showing that Redmon and Stella had bought the hotel at Horse
Branch, KY. I think it is both interesting and ironic that Sue remembers
visiting Betty Lou (Ferry) Ford when she and her husband Pete owned and lived
in that same hotel. Redmon married Ada Stella Bratcher 4 May 1909 at the
Bride's home in Ohio County, KY. They were married by W. C. Taylor; J. H.
Snider and A. M. Renfrow acted as witnesses. Stella was the daughter of C. S. "Caleb" Bratcher and Margaret A. Bratcher. Redmon died in March 1933, and was
buried in the Wesley Bratcher Cemetery, which is located in Western Grayson
County near the Richiand Community. After Redmon died, Stella married Theodore
Simpson. Stella was born 11 Jan 1891 and died 13 Apr 1982. She was buried in
Layman Cemetery, Grayson County, KY. Redmon and Stella had two children, Mae
and Bert. Mae married Everett Pruitt on 24 Dec 1934 in Hartford, KY. They lived
in Caneyville, KY. and had a son named Joe. I do not know who Joe married but
he had a daughter named Andrea Pruitt. I do not have any information about Bert
Ferry other than the fact that in 1982 he was living in Michigan. Children:

From the book "Ferry Forebears" by Walker D. Ferry

Christopher Columbus. Born, Dec 1851, in Grayson County, KY. He married Eliza E. Shaw, 1 Nov 1896, in Bride S home, Grayson County, KY (Witnesses: E.L. Fentress and Ezra Duncan; Minister Isaac M. Mashburn.). In the Grayson County Census for 1860, there is a "Colombo" Ferry listed as being 8 years old. In the Grayson County Census for 1870, there is a "Collombus" Ferry listed as being 16 years old. In both of these years, he is living with his parents, James and Rachel Ferry. In the Grayson County Census for 1880, there is a Columbus Ferry, 27 years old, enumerated with the Thomas Ferry family. In the Grayson County Census for 1900, there is a Christopher C. Ferry listed as head of household who is 48 years old and his birth date is given as Dec. 1851. In his household is "Elizie E." Ferry listed as his wife and Redmon Ferry, age 23, birth date Jan 1877, listed as his brother. I have no doubt that the entries all relate to the same person and that Christopher C. Ferry and Columbus Ferry are one.
