Notes for Elisha Roberts:
Elisha Roberts was born at Watauga Settlement, near the Holston River in Tennessee.In 1811 he migrated from Green Co. KY to St.Tammany Parish, LA.In 1822 he entered Texas in pursuit of a runaway slave whose wife had been carried to Texas by another master.He returned to the site again in 1823 in another pursuit of said slave.In 1824 Elisha settled his family near what is now known as San Augustine, TX.His Brothers, Redden and William followed him shortly afterwards. When he was Alcalde of the Ayish Bayou district he held court on the broad gallery of his house.He was know to have boarded Sam Houston, James Bowie, David Crockett, William B. Travis, and Stephen F. Austin. In 1835-1836 Elisha furnished provisions, lodging and transportation for the revolutionary cause.
