A bit confusing, apparently someone was filling in information occasionally on the wrong page and would scratch it out. Anyway, some interesting stuff. Departed this life febuary the 20th, 1881. Profest faith in Christ in hir 13th year. A church letter for W W Avery and Jane Avery: this is to cerify that WW Avery and Jane Avery his wife hase bene acceptable members of the M E Church at Mt. Pleasante Cypress Circuit Tenn Conference and are commende to the confidence and fellowship of the church to which thay may presente this cirtificte. July 7th 1888 signed by T L Montgomery, Leader. Letter: July the 7th day 1868, State of texas henderson county dear cousin W W Avary and Jane...i take my seat in order to drop you a few lines to inform you that i receivd you letter dated may the 24, 1868. you don't know how glad we was to hear from you once more we did not know what had become of you. We was glad to hear that you was all well and doing well. Those few lines leaves us all well and doing verry well i am. sorry to inform you that mother is dead. she dide the fourth of June 1868. the rest of the connection is well as far as i know at the present time exsept len. He is in bad helth at the present time. we hope and trust that thes few lines may come safe to hand in dew time and find you all well. Benny Coker live in 6 miles of me, ?herry? live in 3 mile of me. Nancy Conley live in 3 miles of me. She has 3 children 3 girls, one grow girl. John Conley is dead, he dide in the wore in arkansas in little rock. The old man Conley is dead, the old lady Conley lives with me brother. William Coker and wife is parted sum 4 or 5 years ago. She lives in tarant county texas. William is gone to louisiana and have not returned yet. Lucinda ?Colley or Colby? live in louisiana. Lucinda Coker live thar too. I have not heard from them this year. Not sinc ?penny or herry? Coker left then he move last wintry. He left them in the act of moving to texas. We dont no whar tha ar unless tha ar in louisiana. William i will inform you that we have good cropes hear at the present times. All most made one more rain will make our cropes of corn. i will inform you about the price of every thing her in this country evry thing is verry scheap her. horses is seling at $25 and $50 $75 $100. Cows and calve $2 $5 $10. Sheap $1 goat $1per head. Pork 5 cts per pond, bacon 10 cts per pond, flour mity high worth worth $8 per hundred. salt per sack $4, coffe 5 pondes to dollars domestic 12 cts to 15 cts per yard, calcoe 12 1/2 cts to 16 3/4 per yard, iron 10cts per pond, nas land $1 to $2 to $5 per acre, work oxen seling from $25 to 40 per yoke. william this is the eases cuntry to live in that i every tride to live in if it wasen so chilly. we have so much chill and fever good range, good hoges cuntry. game plenty all most enny sort corn every year tha git fat on the mass. my hoges is fat now.
