John Powell Figg, grandfather, farmed near Iowa Ciy, until his lst child was ready for college. He moved to town, became a locksmith and worked for a hardware store, so his children could go to the University of Iowa. All five children (three boys and two girls)graduated from the University-- the three boys as dentists. Then at age 66, John Powell bought and ran this Transient Hotel until his death at age 83.
