I am researching my family tree. The Finley, Findley, Finley, Finlaw and other variations of spelling are all in the family tree. The family tree supposedly started in Ireland with a move to Scotland and later a move back to Ireland. While in Scotland, the family supposedly had their own Highland Clan, but feared for their lives when Macbeth was killed and went underground which was about the same time Fearchar McFinley surfaced as the head of a new Farquharson Clan. The Tartan colors seem to be nearly identical and some think one replaced the other except the underground clan supposedly inter-married with the McDonald Clan and the Stewart Clan. There are supposedly as many as five coats of arms for the Finleys, but have also adopted the Farquharson Coat of Arms, but supposedly can use the McDonald and Stewart Coat of Arms because of the intermarriages.
