Finlay was born in 1889, son of Roderick Finlayson and Mary Ladds. He was a Marine Engineer by trade. He married Jane Masson, a neighbour. At the time of her marriage in 1910, he was living at 27 Walker Road and she lived at no. 25. They had 3 children, Finlay, who died as a baby, Mary Isabella and my grandfather, Robert who was born in 1914. Finlay continued as an engineman during WW1 but unfortunately died less than 2 years after his father, Roderick, on Monday, 7th January 1918, aged 29. He was serving as an engineman on H.M.S. Acteon, Royal Naval Reserve. He was buried at Nigg Parish Churchyard, Aberdeen, Scotland.
Jane Masson was born in New Street, Stonehaven on 20 February 1887. She was the daughter of Robert Masson from Skateraw and Isabella Main. She was a fish worker when she married Finlay in 1910. Several years after Finlay's death she remarried. She married John Buthlay Robertson Ritchie in Aberdeen in 1924. She died in Aberdeen 1969.
