Charles T. Finlayson died aboard HMS Aboukir 1914
Charles Tulloch Finlayson b, abt 1878, was the son of Donald Finlayson and Catherine Munro. Charles died 2 years before his brother Roderick whilst serving on HMS Aboukir during WW1. HMS Aboukir was a British armoured cruiser that was launched on 16 May 1900. On September 22nd 1914 it was sunk in the North Sea, 20 miles off the Dutch coast, after being torpedoed by the German submarine U-9. HMS Hogue and HMS Cressy were also torpedoed as they were stationary, trying to save the lives of the men on the Aboukir. Over 60 officers and 1300 men were lost.
