I am currently researching my family tree which includes the following families: Moon, Kauffman/Coffman, Fulton, Finkle, Bitz, Allen and others.
From family records, I have traced my genealogy back to Jacob Coffman and Magdalena Hiestand. From past family members' research, Jacob Coffman is said to be the son of Jacob I and Catherine and grandson of Augustus Kauffman and Anna Catharina Hatzenbohler. Jacob I had the following children: Jacob II + Magdalena, George and Mary Pickett, Andrew + Catherine Black/Swartz, and Magdalena + Henry Wolf. I believe the source of this information was Kauffman-Coffman Lineages, by Charles Fahs Kauffman, 1940. From my research on the internet, the majority of sites list Andreas Kauffman and Elizabeth Kneisley as the parents of Jacob Coffman(1729-1812). I am unsure at this time which source is correct, more research is needed before I can make a decision. If anyone has additional sources to support either claim, please email me.
Our family records list Jacob Coffman and Magdalena Hiestand (married in 1790 in Highland Co., OH)having the following children: Lewis I (my great-great-great grandfather b. 1-19-1796)who married Magdalena Ruble, John, Jacob (b. 1790) who married Polly Ruble, Phillip who married P. Schultz, Mathias (b. 1802) who married Margaret Clark, Samuel who married Nancy Smith, and Daniel who married Elizabeth Ruble. Research that I did on the internet, indicate that Jacob Kauffman (1729-1812) + Magdalena Hiestand (m. 1747) had 10 children: John (b.1749), Jacob, Henry, Elizabeth, Barbara, Andrew, Joseph, Magdalena, Adam, and David. Obivously, these must be different Jacobs. Our Jacob was on the 1830 property tax list in Ohio, so died sometime after 1830. There is a 30 year age difference between the two groups of children. If anyone can straighten out this mess..please let me know!
