Associated families on which I have some information, but only lineage as in-laws and cousins: Bird, Champney, Cott, Dean, Farmer, Greenage/Grinage, Handsor, Harrison, Miller, Pickerem, Proctor, Sammons/Simons, Wright, and a bunch of "Unknowns". Some of these families may move to the direct line list as a result of current research.
REGIONS INVOLVED IN MY ANCESTRY
States: Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, and the province of Ontario.
Countries: the United States, Canada, England, Scotland, Ireland, and Sweden. Connections with Germany and France have not been proven yet.
The more immediate generations of my ancestry are all located in the area of Detroit, Michigan, and Hannibal, Missouri. The Fisher surname traces back to Scottish immigrants in the late 1700s.
CURRENT RESEARCH INTERESTS
My present interest is tracking a group of families that moved from Delaware to Michigan and Ontario in the years 1855-1875. This group had a strong community feeling while in Delaware, and children from the community tended to marry others from the community. This trend continued after the move to the midwest and only began to break down with marriages to "outsiders" after about 1900. The link below will take you to the Mitsawokett site where much information is freely exchanged by a group of Delaware researchers interested in these and other related families.
I also have devoted a good bit of time to researching another family in Scotland, in addition to the Fishers. The Thompson/MacTavish lines from this research appear below. The ancestral home is at Dunadd in Argyll, a fort ("dun") on a hill beside the River Add. The kings of the Scots were crowned there from about 500-840 A.D. It is believed, but with lack of documentation, that the MacTavish/MacAlpine lines lead back to Kenneth MacAlpine, the first King of the Scots. He lived in the 800s and took the Stone of Destiny from Dunadd to its famous location at Scone, from which it was removed to Westminster Abbey by the British Crown about 1296. Descendants from these lines live today in central Manitoba, southwest Ontario, various locations in the US, and, of course, many still in Scotland.
