Notes for BEDE BECKETT:
There is serious question as to the grandfather of Perry Becket. In 1787, there is a probate for Bede Beckett in Sussex Co. who may be the one. In the disposition of goods, he is referred to as Beedy. The probate was administered by Peter Becket [Beeket?], apparently the son, though nothing in the probate directly addresses Peter as a son. No widow or other persons named Becket are mentioned.
Heinegg: Peter Beckett, a Negro slave in Northampton Co., Virginia in the 1700s had children by a Sarah Dawson, a white servant woman in that area. Heinegg cites them as the parents of Peter of Sussex Co., Delaware.
Note: Pete and Bede are not so different among people who are not literate. Even though some issues are not solved, the speculative Heinegg data is being included here for reference and comment.
