Descendants of George W. Dean

Generation No. 2

2. JAMES H.2 DEAN (GEORGE W.1) (Source: Wayne Co. Records.) was born 1840 in Delaware (Source: Age 10 in 1850 census. PA on death record may be erroneous. Computation from death record gives 9/13/1838.), and died 25 Dec 1899 in Romulus, Wayne, Michigan (Source: Wayne Co. Records.). He married (1) ELVA A. FARGO (Source: Wayne Co. Records.), daughter of HENRY FARGO and URSULA KNICKERBICHER. She was born 1848 (Source: Tombstone. DAR cemetery record indicates Jan 1849 by calculation from age 19y 1m.), and died 11 Feb 1868 in Romulus, Wayne, Michigan (Source: Tombstone. DAR Cemetery records provide exact date). He married (2) SARAH J. FARMER (Source: (1) 1850 census., (2) Romulus cemetery.) Bet. 1870 - 1873 (Source: By deduction from the census as single in 1870 and birth of George in 1873.), daughter of JOSEPH/JOSIAH FARMER and ELIZABETH MILLER. She was born Dec 1848 in Kent Co., Delaware (Source: 1850 census.), and died 1920 in Romulus, Wayne, Michigan (Source: Romulus cemetery.).

Note: there are descendants today at Romulus with the surname Vining, and many are buried in the cemetery there. This Susan Vining may be an aunt of these Deen children, related either to mother Sarah Durham or father George Dean. The Vinings may have taken James H. and siblings to Michigan if their parents had died.

May be the "Father" buried with Arvilla Dean Perkins at Romulus.

Apparently, James H. Dean lost his first wife, Elva A. Fargo Dean, shortly after their daughter Arvilla was born. At that time, James put Arvilla in the care of Robert Dean and his wife Angeline. We have sought for the relationship between James and Robert that would indicate sufficient closeness to justify this trust. Having found no way to connect Robert and James, Joseph Romeo came up with 1850 Delaware census records where Angeline might be James' sister, though the name is Angelica and the family tie is tenuous. The ages match, the surnames are all spelled Deen, and the three children are all in the same location. The tie is tenuous because the children are not all in the same household and none of the three we have found are living with the father George. We presume this is because George and/or wife Sarah Durham may have died by 1850. This possibility also may relate to the marriage record of Nancy Perkins to a George Dean, who we cannot otherwise identify, in Ypsilanti in 1865. This is speculation, we are seeking more documentation.
