Generation No. 2

2. ROBERT P.2 MUNCE (ROBERT1) (Source: Chuck Counceller webpage.) was born 1810 in Delaware (Source: 1850 census.), and died Unknown. He married JEMIMA HANSOR (Source: Chuck Counceller.) ca. 20 May 1832 in Delaware (Source: Marriage bond.). She was born 1812 in Delaware (Source: 1850 census.), and died Bef. 1870 in Delaware (Source: 1870 census.).

Notes for R
OBERT P. MUNCE:
Text of handwritten marriage bond (from Harry Muncey):
Know All Men By These Presents,
That we Robert Munce and John Miller, Are held and firmly[?] bound to the state of Delaware in the sum of two Hundred Dollars, Lawfull money of the said state, to be paid to the said state of Delaware; to which payment well and truly to be made, we bind ourselves and each of us, jointly and severally, [?] each of our [?] executors and administrators, firmly by these presents, sealed with our seals. Dated the twentieth day of May in the year of our Lord, One thousand eight hundred and thirty-two.
The Condition of the above written obligation is such that if Robert Munce and Jemima Hansor may lawfully unite themselves in marriage, And if there be no legal objection to Celebrating the rights of marriage between them, then the said obligation shall be void, otherwise in force.
Sealed + delivered in the presence of Wm. A. Budd[?] Jus P.
Signed by mark by Robert Munce and John Miller.

DE researchers know about some family branches, but have no data on daughter Hannah, who "disappears" in the 1860 census. Is this because she married Benjamin Counsellor and went to Michigan?

1830 DE Kent Little Creek 100 - not visibly present, but may be living with brother Isaiah.

Robert Munce with 2-0-1-0-0-0--2-0-1-0-0-0 free colored
Presumably Robert and wife with sons Josiah and James and daughters Lydia and Margaret (or some other daughter who died in childhood). Son Daniel, reported by Betty and Ray Terry, must have died before 1840.
Robert is on the bottom line of the page. Just above him are William Munce[index has Monice] 2-0-0-1-0-0--0-0-1-0-1-0 free colored, John Cott Jr., Daniel Durham, and Isaac Hazel (white and colored household, but see son Robert Munce's listing in 1870). At top of next page, Isaiah Songo, John Carney, and John Durham. William could be brother of Robert.

Robert Munce 40 no occupation given, Jemima 37, Lydia 17, Josiah 15, Daniel 12, [continued on next page] *Adelaide Denney 2 F [W], *Mary Butler 14 F [W], *John Dill 19 M B Lab[orer], *Margaret Johns 15 F B, Margaret Munce 10, Mary E 9, Hannah 7, Angeline 5, Anjelica 2, Robert 1 mo.
This family is next door to Joel and Margaret [Munce] Durham, sister and brother-in-law. John and Louisa Carney on same page.
*It is totally unclear why these people are in the middle of this family. The order and the ages make no sense. Two pages earlier, on last two lines, are Thomas A. Denney 28 and Catharine 22 who are probably parents of Adelaide.
1860 DE Kent Duck Creek 100 (Smyrna) 28 Jun 1860 p68wr - all mulatto, all bDE
Robt Muncey 52 farmer, Jemima [index says Jermina] 48, Lydia A 26, Mary E 18, Angelina 14, Angelica 12, Robert 9, Nehemiah 7, Jeremiah 5, Susan 3.
Betty and Ray Terry and John Carter show Susan as a child of Lydia and Benjamin Sammons. This listing does not indicate that.
Charles and Catherine Loatman on next page.
1870 DE Kent District 11 Agricultural Portion (Smyrna) 17 Jun 1870 p43wr p357st - all mulatto, all bDE
Muncey Robert 58 farm laborer, Sammons Lydia 28 keeping house, [Sammons implied] Benjamin 27 farm laborer, [Sammons implied, but probably Muncey] Nehemiah 18 farm laborer, [Sammons implied but Muncey?] Susan 13, [Sammons implied] Emer[?] 6 (female), [Sammons implied] Christoner 1 (female).
Henry and Rachel Derham family on same page. Later listings for Benjamin and Lydia Sammons show Christoner to be Christine.
Likely the two youngest children are of Lydia and Benjamin, but Nehemiah and Susan are probably Robert's. Lydia's age is a mystery, as well as Robert's.

Harry Muncey identifies an Isaiah Zaddock Munce, b. 1834 (see ages below?), as part of this family and cites references to sister Margaret, b. 1840, and brother Robert, b. 1850. This Isaiah married Elmira Carty/Carter in 1857. Where was he at the time of the 1850 census?

Notes for J
EMIMA HANSOR:
Delaware researchers have her as Jemima Handsor or Jemima Okea or Ann Jemima Hansor or Jemima Lockwood.

See text of marriage bond in husband's notes (Jemima Hansor)
See daughter Angeline's death certificate (parents Robert Munson and Jemima Okea)
See daughter Mary Elizabeth's death certificate (parents Robert Munce and Jamima Hanzor)
See daughter Hannah's death certificate (parents Robert Munson and Jennie Lockwood of Alma, Michigan)

Given the location and that Robert and Jemima named a daughter Angelica, a relationship between Jemima and the Angelica below is very possible.

Biographical Directory of Kent Co.: Gilico (Angelica) Ann Handsor ( - c. 1852) received a bequest from Esther Sisco in 1815. She married first John Loockerman. She described Sally A. Cambridge as "a girl I raised" in her 1848 will. The will was drafted by Elisha Durham and witnessed by James Carney and George Hall. The appraisal was carried out in 1852 by John Denney and George Hall. She conveyed to William Durham a lot at the fork bridge in 1848. In 1856 William and his wife Mahala conveyed it to John Kimmey. As administrator, William Durham conveyed a tract to Elisha Durham.

Children of R
OBERT MUNCE and JEMIMA HANSOR are:
5. i.   LYDIA3 MUNCE, b. Sep 1832, Kent County, Delaware; d. Bet. 1908 - 1909, Delaware.
ii.   JOSIAH MUNCE (Source: 1850 census.), b. 1835 (Source: 1850 census.); d. Unknown; m. CAROLINE DEAN (Source: Betty and Ray Terry.), 22 Dec 1858, Kent County, Delaware (Source: Betty and Ray Terry.); b. 1839, Delaware (Source: Betty and Ray Terry.); d. Unknown.
  Notes for JOSIAH MUNCE:
Some questions remain about this Josiah. The marriage record to Caroline Dean gives his name as Joseph. Harry Muncey believes he was really named Isaiah Zaddock after his uncle. [But Isaiah married Elmira Carty/Carter.??] Isaiah died 6/2/1905 and is buried in Immanuel Union United Methodist Church Cemetery, Bishop's Corner, Delaware.

Can this be this Josiah?

  Notes for ROBERT MUNCE:
N.B. There are two Robert Munces in Delaware, born close together in about 1847 and 1850, and their fathers are brothers Robert and Thomas Munce. The later census listings for these sons may or may not be confused, due to inaccurate reporting of ages.

1870 - living with sister Angeline Munce Dean.

The children's birth data is odd, since their father was born in MD (like their maternal grandfather). Is it a census taker's error, or is Robert not the father of these children? Census error is likely, since a "son" seems to be named Abigail and "Willan" might really be William.
