Descendants of John Sammons, Sr. IN MEMORIAM FLOYD BLAINE HANDSOR, JR. 1941-2002

Generation No. 2

2. WILLIAM2 SALMONS (JOHN1 SAMMONS, SR.) (Source: Preston Sammons.) was born ca. 1793 in Delaware (Source: 1850 census.), and died Aft. 1850 (Source: 1850 census.). He married CATHARINE MDNNMUNKN (Source: 1850 census.). She was born ca. 1799 in Delaware (Source: 1850 census.), and died Aft. 1850 (Source: 1850 census.).

Notes for W
ILLIAM SALMONS:
Preston Sammons: William is documented as being born to John and Nancy SAMMONS in the records of St. George - Indian River Episcopal Church.

The assumption is that Hetty is at the end of the list because she is at home only part of the time. She is also listed with the John Tilney family (white) several pages later in the census, perhaps her place of employment. Due to age, Mary A might be a granddaughter, perhaps the daughter of Israel Sammons - see his listing also.

Peter Beckett (son of Greensbury) and Mary E. on prior page. Peter's mother was Deborah Sammons.

Prudence Argo was in the household in 1850, the year of Lizzie's birth. The marriage occurred in 1851. Considering the misnomer "Rhoda" in 1860, there seems to have been only one wife after the mother of Hester: Prudence Argo/Hargrove.

From Preston Sammons:
DEATH RECORD
Isaac SAMMONS death record 1884 #5, Age 94, Date of Death 1-27-1884, Color: Colored, Residence Little Creek Hundred, Cause of death Apoplexia, Name and nation of parents unknown
The death age of 94 doesn't match with his expected census age of 84. Probably a typo. I have a note that states his Head Stone to read 86 years (old). Late in life he seems to have added an extra year or two.

List of possible earlier wives: Pamela Couney, Esther Handsey, and Elizabeth Ridgway.

Preston has a record of an Isaac Sammons marrying Pamela Couney in Sussex Co. 12/18/1819, and also a indication for Isaac Sammons marrying Esther Handsey in 1830 in Kent Co. He does not know for sure if either or both of these marriages are this Isaac.

Betty and Ray Terry show:
Groom: MOSLEY, Purnell age 22, color M, b Del, Res East Dover Hundred, farmer
Bride: SAMMONS, Susan age 17, color M, b Del, Res Dover Hundred (cert says Salmons)

Groom's Parents: Purnell Mosley & Rebecca Miller, b Frederica, Del.
Bride's Parents: Issac Salmons & Elizabeth Ridgway, b Sussex Co.
This cannot be Susan, b. 1838. She is born ca. 1858. Who is this? Isaac was married to Elizabeth Ridgway in 1858? Preston shows Isaac married to Prudence with birth of Mitchell Perkins Sammons in 1858. Isaac Sammons Jr. is clearly too young to be the father of this Susan, unless we have an error about his parentage. [DWF]
